The lecture

Damage is a finding. It is not the whole explanation.

LOOK BEYOND THE LABELWear confirms force. It does not explain the entire system.
01Interpret wear, fractures, and restorative damage in context
02Differentiate protection from management of contributing factors
03Know when a night guard may help and when further evaluation is needed

Tooth wear is a finding. It is not a complete diagnosis. Wear patterns, fractures, muscle fatigue, headaches, restoration history, sleep symptoms, and occlusal contacts can provide important information about the forces acting on the patient.

This lecture helps dentists move beyond the simple label of bruxism and distinguish between protecting the teeth and understanding the factors contributing to the damage.

Explore awake bruxism and sleep bruxism, clenching compared with grinding, cracked teeth, abfractions, mobility, sleep and airway questions, force direction and distribution, and when broken or repeatedly adjusted restorations indicate the need for broader evaluation.

What you will learn

Three clinical learning objectives.

01

Interpret wear and fracture patterns within a broader assessment.

02

Differentiate dental protection from management of contributing factors.

03

Create a more complete evaluation for patients with bruxism and recurrent restorative damage.

Wear confirms that force is present, but it does not explain the entire system.

TMJ Essentials teaches the examination process used to evaluate the muscles, joints, movement patterns, and occlusion before definitive restorative treatment.

Strengthen your ability to understand broken restorations, wear, and bruxism within a more complete diagnostic framework.
