Symptom relief is not the same as diagnosis.
Botox may reduce muscle activity and provide symptom relief for selected patients. It does not, however, identify the source of the patient’s pain.
Before discussing treatment, the dentist must consider whether the complaint appears muscular, joint-related, dental, neurologic, sleep-related, or multifactorial. Clenching may be the primary concern, a contributing factor, or a response to another problem.
This lecture is a diagnosis and case-selection webinar, not an injection-technique course. Explore patient expectations, appliance and restorative considerations, functional consequences of reducing muscle activity, and when consent, scope, collaboration, or referral should shape the decision.
Three clinical learning objectives.
Identify the clinical questions that should precede consideration of Botox.
Differentiate symptom relief from diagnosis and long-term treatment planning.
Recognize when broader evaluation or collaborative care is required.
